About the Artist – Eric Christensen

Eric Christensen began painting professionally in 1992 and quickly earned recognition as one of the most celebrated Wine Country artists. Entirely self-taught, he developed a groundbreaking watercolor technique that produces images so vivid and detailed they are often mistaken for oil paintings or photographs. Christensen is the only known artist to achieve true hyperrealism using standard watercolor.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Eric’s childhood interests included painting, botany, classical music, and gourmet cooking. These passions blended naturally into the lifelike still lifes and wine-country scenes that have made him world-renowned. After opening a successful gallery in Yountville, California in the heart of Napa Valley, Christensen ultimately chose to devote himself full-time to painting. His work has been featured in national magazines, newspapers, and on television, including Wine Country Living.

Eric’s “wine art” transcends the bottle itself to capture the romance of the Napa lifestyle — often incorporating fresh produce, flowers, and gourmet pairings into his compositions. His meticulous dry-brush technique requires over 30 layers of paint, allowing him to create luminous colors, rich shadows, and an extraordinary sense of realism.

Collectors of Christensen’s art often own multiple works, cherishing his rare ability to celebrate fine wine, food, and the beauty of natural materials in a single hyper-realistic image. His paintings are not only admired for their technical brilliance but also for their ability to transport viewers into the lifestyle of wine country.
