For over two decades,
Patrick O’Rourke has been one of the most beloved and sought-after artists capturing the breathtaking landscapes of
Northern California Wine Country. From his
majestic vineyard panoramas to the whimsical charm of his
Mouseterpieces, O’Rourke’s art has left a lasting impression on collectors worldwide. Now, after a
remarkable career in Romantic Realism, O’Rourke is announcing his
 retirement from painting following a
stroke in 2023 that has made it difficult for him to create at the level he has been capable of.
To honor his extraordinary artistic journey, Gallery 1870 - Fine Art Napa will host a special retirement showcase featuring O’Rourke’s final available original paintings along with a curated selection of his limited edition canvas prints. This once-in-a-lifetime event will take place during Art Around Napa on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23, at the gallery’s new location in downtown Napa at 1270 1st Street, behind the Archer Hotel at First Street Napa from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
A LEGACY OF ART & PASSION:
Born with an artist’s soul, Patrick O’Rourke picked up a paintbrush at just four years old, igniting a lifelong passion for art. For the past 64 years, painting has not only been his greatest joy but but for many of those years also his livelihood, allowing him to share his vision with collectors around the world.
Much of O'Rourke's portfolio has been inspired by the rolling vineyards, oak-studded hillsides, and misty mornings of Napa and Sonoma Counties, O’Rourke’s landscapes transport viewers into a world where light, texture, and depth bring the wine country to life.
Throughout his career, O’Rourke mastered the ability to capture the seasonal beauty of California’s wine country, from the lush greens of early spring to the golden hues of harvest. His work has been a top seller at Gallery 1870, earning him a loyal following among fine art collectors who cherish his unique blend of realism and romanticism.

*Also available as a Limited Edition giclee on canvas.
Beyond landscapes, O’Rourke’s
"Mouseterpieces"Â showcases his
playful sense of humor, featuring charming
mice engaging in mischievous and endearing adventures alongside wine, cheese, and candlelight. These paintings have brought
joy and laughter to collectors, adding a touch of
 whimsy to his diverse portfolio.
Perhaps the most beloved "Mouseterpiece is "
Off the Clock", a whimsical and charming painting that captures the essence of indulgence and relaxation. This playful scene features a content, wine-loving cat lounging with a glass of red in hand, surrounded by mischievous mice reveling in their own tiny soirée. With a bottle of Corison Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon setting the scene, and a clock signaling it’s officially time to kick back.
The Last Mouseterpiece - "Off the Clock" available at Gallery 1870 for viewing and purchase. Also available as a Limited Edition giclee on canvas.
THE FINAL COLLECTION:
In 2017, Patrick O'Rourke suffered a devastating loss when the explosive Santa Rosa Tubbs Fire destroyed countless original paintings. Today, with only a few remaining originals available and his inability to paint, this Retirement Showcase presents a rare and unique opportunity to experience some of his finest works.
This exclusive exhibition offers art enthusiasts a final chance to view and acquire some of the last original paintings ever created by Patrick O’Rourke. Each piece stands as both a breathtaking visual masterpiece and a testament to his lifelong passion for art. In addition to original paintings, a selection of limited-edition canvas prints will also be available for viewing and purchase.
This collection represents the pinnacle of O’Rourke’s artistic journey—a final chapter in his incredible legacy. Whether you are a longtime collector or discovering his work for the first time, this special event is a celebration of an artist whose vision has beautifully captured the essence of Napa Valley.

Let’s make this a memorable sendoff for an extraordinary artist!
Patrick has been a leading artist in the Gallery for more than 25 years. His art reflects the beauty and relevance of Napa Valley. His highly textured pieces are so realistic and truly define his expertise in the art world. Clients from all over the world have taken a piece of Napa Valley home with them. I will always be thankful to Patrick for the commissions he has painted for Paul and I. Our favorite is “Blue Mountain Homestead.” From photos, he captured Paul’s childhood homestead and my homestead landscape nestled in the Grande Ronde Valley in Eastern Oregon. I wish Patrick much peace going forward because I know he will miss gliding the paintbrush across the canvas and seeing what that process creates.

Dear Patrick-we were sorry to hear of your illness. You hold a special place in our hearts. I counted the number of original paintings you have painted in our house last night and we have six! We believe you are one of the greatest artists of vineyards! We have them on prominent walls of our house and we look at them everyday. We are especially privileged to have 2 paintings specifically for our family which are priceless to us. The first is a bottle of BV and the Rutherford House in Napa Valley which which we had painted to celebrate our daughters engagement and the second is a bottle of Tobin James from Paso Robles which you added a small mouse to and our family initials. Very sorry about the devastating fire taking many of your beautiful paintings. A similar incident of fire happened for the artist, Charles Wysocki, in the San Bernardino mountains. He lost a whole compound of paintings and five Franklin Mint doll houses saving for his grandchildren that he helped inspire. He was so nice to us and signed all of the little paintings in the dollhouse we have. We believe this quote sums up our feelings about you, “A true artist is not one who is inspired, but one who who inspires others.” Blessings for you!
the San Bernardino mountains and a terrible fire
Dear Patrick O’Rourke,
I am very, very sorry to hear of your illness. I just wanted to let you know that in the summer of 2006 my husband and I visited Gallery 1870 while on a wine country tour and we fell in love with an 8Ă—10 giclee print on canvas of The Color of Autumn. We bought it and the gallery owner was to mail it to our home in Ohio. He told us you would be at the gallery the next day and would we like for you to write something on the back? Of course we said yes. May I say thank you for that. It made it even more special for us.
I pray that you are able to make a good recovery. My husband passed with Covid in 2021, but we always enjoyed our beautiful print through the years.
Sue
Patrick,
You will always be a cherished part of the Gallery 1870 family! From the very beginning in 2005—through our time in Yountville and now in Downtown Napa—you’ve been with us every step of the way.
For two decades (now I really feel old!), you have been one of our top-selling artists, and one of the rare few who received a check every single month due to your incredible and consistent art sales. We’ve had the privilege of placing countless originals and limited editions into the homes of collectors who truly treasure your work.
Your artistry has brought immense joy to so many, filling our gallery walls with beauty and creating lasting memories for collectors worldwide. Your success has been an integral part of our own, and we couldn’t have done this without you.
Thank you for sharing your extraordinary talent with us—we are forever grateful!
With hugs, admiration and appreciation,
Kassia
