About the Artist — Patrick O’Rourke (1956–2026)

Patrick O’Rourke (1956–2026) was a celebrated California artist whose life and career were deeply connected to the landscapes of Northern California.

O’Rourke began painting at an extraordinarily young age, picking up a paintbrush when he was just four years old. At twelve, he moved with his family to a remote area outside Santa Rosa in Sonoma County. The surrounding landscape made a lasting impression on him and became an important source of inspiration throughout his career.

Working in a distinctive Romantic Realist style, O’Rourke became known for his richly textured landscapes and expressive interpretations of Northern California Wine Country. His paintings captured rolling hills, vineyards, oak trees, waterways, changing seasons, and luminous atmospheric conditions, creating works that resonated with collectors both locally and internationally.

O’Rourke was also known for his whimsical Mouseterpieces, a playful and imaginative body of work that revealed another side of his artistic personality and creativity.

For more than two decades, Patrick O’Rourke was an important part of the Gallery 1870 family. His paintings became treasured pieces in private collections and helped establish a lasting visual record of the Northern California landscapes he loved.

Following health challenges, O’Rourke retired from painting. He passed away in 2026, bringing to a close a lifetime of artistic creation. With no new original paintings to come, the body of original work he left behind is now finite, and many of his most significant paintings have already entered private collections.

Today, only a limited number of Patrick O’Rourke original paintings remain available for acquisition. Each represents not simply an original work of art, but a lasting piece of O’Rourke’s artistic legacy and a connection to the Northern California landscape that inspired a lifetime of painting.
