The One with the Line

While the ever-polished Frenchies Ross and Rachel were distracted by yet another conversation about defining their relationship, the line at the bakery hardly seemed to matter. Were they friends? Were they more than friends? Did they simply need a little break? If Ross and Rachel couldn’t figure it out, how was the rest of the pack supposed to?

With the line hardly seeming to move, Monica dispatched Chandler to sniff out the holdup. He worked his way toward the front, stretched onto his hind legs, and peered through the bakery door. “How many dogs are in front of us?” Monica called. Phoebe, meanwhile, had decided the wait needed entertainment and began singing a song about a stinky cat. Monica glanced at her. Phoebe continued without the slightest concern for talent, pitch, or who might be listening.

Monica finally turned to check the line behind her and stopped. There was Joey, the lovable Golden Retriever, happily munching on a scrumptious croissant while standing at the back of the line for more. “How did you get through the line already?” Monica asked. Joey smiled and gave a little nod. “There was this gorgeous Cocker Spaniel behind the counter taking orders. I was standing by the exit door, gave her a smile and a nod, and next thing I knew, she brought me a treat.” He took another bite, then added that she had also insisted they try the Forgetaboutit—a crispy treat topped with caramel, dipped in chocolate, and finished with sea salt. Monica looked toward Chandler, still conducting his investigation at the front. Apparently, they had been doing this all wrong.
