An Art Mulligan by Gallery 1870 Artist Mikki Senkarik

Kassia Kilgore

Written on May 29th by an amazing Gallery 1870 Artist Mikki Senkarik!

Rarely does an artist get the unique opportunity for a MULLIGAN. A “Do Over”. Gallery 1870 in Napa, who represents my work, sent me this painting they’d acquired by chance. I painted “Splendorous Sea” in 1998. Paul asked if I’d like to have it and possibly want to update it.

At the time this piece was painted we had just moved to Pacific Grove, CA. It’s on Monterey Bay, a few miles from Carmel. We’d found a home to lease right across Ocean View Boulevard from the Bay. We had a wonderful ocean view out our studio window; sometimes the waves came crashing across the road and up into our front yard. Once a baby seal was deposited by our front doorstep! When I finished this painting, Jack and I were particularly pleased with how the water turned out. We felt it was the best I had ever done. Never having lived by the ocean before, the continual observation really made a difference when it came to painting the undulating sea.

That was THEN…

This is NOW!

How fun to go back and give “Splendorous Sea” new life! Jack and I were happy with it 27 years ago, I’m pleased with how it turned out now. If you’d like to enlarge this image, just click on the picture.

Thanks for following along. With Colorful Smiles and Hugs,
